Picture descriptions
Adding descriptions,
or captions, to the pictures on your Web site pages is another way
to improve your rankings in the search engines. The next technique
we are going to use is the ALT attribute of the <IMG> tag.
In html language it will look like this:
<IMG SRC="graphic.
If" ALT="description goes here">
You can use this option with the pictures you put on your site, so that the descriptions will appear whenever a visitor's mouse rolls over a picture.
Some of the search engines will use descriptions in these tags to help your site ranking. You can put your description "important keywords" after the alt. See the example above. Don't forget, what you use in the "ALT" tag will show up on the screen when the mouse is over it. It also shows up on browsers with the graphics turned off. So, make sure your description or caption is relevant and something that your viewer will understand.
Try to make your descriptions as short as possible, but include important keywords. While you should alternate between using capitalized and non-capitalized words, remember not to let your descriptions run longer than 250 characters.
