Search Engine optimization

Follow these techniques to get high ranking for your site at the search engines:

The title of your html page

When you type a word to search on, the search engine looks for these words in the title of the html pages. Therefore, it is important to include in your title the words that are likely to be used when a person looks for your product.

For example, if your Web site talks about selling fishing equipment, you should not use a title like “Fishing equipment;" It is not enough. You have to include as many  relevant keywords to your site as possible, without going overboard. A better title would be: "Fishing Equipment: Fishing Rods, Boats, Diving Tools, and Guides."

Some search engines organizes sites alphabetically. So, to help position your Web site at the top of the list, start with a number like "1" or letter like "A." But, don't use trick names like putting "AAAA-1" before your title because there are search engines that are aware to these tricks and will not accept your Web site.

Your keywords have to be relevant to your title and to your site, or "the content of the site." Otherwise, your site may be discarded. Don't use keywords that are frequently used, this will not help your rank and it may cause many search engines to penalize you. In addition don't repeat a word in the title too much.

*Note: Search engines ignore common words such as "the", "of", etc…

People may use plural or singular words when searching for something. To cover all the possibilities always add an "s" to the end of every appropriate word. Make each page on your site include a different title.

Your pages within your site must have a full name. This can help in your search engine ranking. For example: if your page deals with fishing equipment, make your link like this:

 http://www.yourdomain.com/how to use fishing equipments.html

Hyperlink your important keywords

Hyperlinks are a common way that search engines use to rank Web sites, so when you hyperlink on keywords you will emphasize them to the search engines.

Spam

Avoid search engine spamming, like submitting your URL to the search engines almost every day. It's better to resubmit to search engines just when there are changes to your Web site pages.

Another type of spam that you could be penalized for is to use your keyword list more than two times. So, pick your most important keywords and use them just once. Repeating them too frequently in your list can be considered spamming. Also make your keywords relevant to the main theme of your site. Don't use keywords that have no relevance just to get a traffic to your site; this will not promote your business. In fact, the opposite will happen; this can hurt your business.

Another type of spam is adding invisible text in your Web pages. This technique is called the "comment line." The comment line form is <!............>, so every sentence that starts with "!" will be invisible to your Web site visitors, after the "!" you can put anything you want, like placing extra keywords. For example <!...car, wheel, taxi, ambulance, fire engine, limousine, armored car..>. Many more recent programs for making invisible text enable users to write hidden text in the same color as the background. But, beware of using this technique. A lot of search engines will penalize you for it

What if your site get banned for spamming?

If you used prohibited tricks to improve your ranking and you think that the search engine has banned you, you must clean away any spamming on your site. Then contact the search engine administrator and tell them thon your site is now clean. They will not put your site back up immediately; it will take a couple of weeks. You can also call them at the phone number provided on their site to discuss your problem. You can do the same for every search engine that banned you.

How you can tell if on your site has been banned from a search engine:

Let’s say you want to check this out in Google. Go to the Google Web site and type in the search engine the full address of your Web site. If Google shows your site and information about it, your site is fine. However, if your page saying “sorry, no information is available for the URL you have requested, site” your site is banned.

If you are a new submitter, remember to make sure to give the search engines the needed time to list your site.
